Hi, I’m Ryan Murray!
I am a UX Designer specializing in Human-Centered Architecture and Scalable Design Systems. I bridge the gap between complex information and intuitive, WCAG-compliant design—from expansive design systems to interactive mobile experiences. I don't just build interfaces; I build the accessible standards that power them.
Principles that Define my work:
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
These guidelines help ensure that web content is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities.
User Centered Design
User-centered design focuses on understanding and addressing the needs and preferences of the users throughout the design process.
Usability
Usability refers to how easy and enjoyable a website or app is to use. It involves designing interfaces that are simple, efficient, and provide a good user experience.
Responsive Design
Responsive design ensures that a website or app works well on a variety of devices and screen sizes, from smartphones to large desktop monitors.
Gestalt Principles
Gestalt principles are about how people perceive and organize visual information.
Visual Hierarchy
Visual hierarchy is about organizing elements on a page so that users naturally notice the most important information first.
Quote from past mentor:
“ I had a chance to mentor Ryan during his final stage of the Designlab Academy Course. I am constantly in awe of Ryan’s grit and determination, as well as his ability to positively deal with challenging experiences, especially when it comes to learning a new field and needing to quickly grasp new concepts. His extensive background in graphic design and experience with freelance projects give him a significant advantage in the world of UX, where he is gracefully applying himself through user empathy and care for accessible and inclusive design. He is hardworking and driven, and can accomplish anything he sets his mind to - he gets it done! Ryan would be a great addition to any design team!”

Volunteer Work
DunkZone
Turning 'design debt' into a high-performance engine.
When I stepped into the DunkZone project, the design team was all over the place. I took the lead on building a from-scratch design system to align our four-person UX team and bridge the gap to development. The result? A 30% boost in design efficiency and a cohesive, accessible product that actually scales.
Texas A&M (TeamUp Program)
One System, Diverse Solutions: Architecting the Future of Student Innovation.
I partnered with Texas A&M’s STEM program to turn academic concepts into functional digital products. After architecting a modular design system, I led the UI strategy for a speed-reading and comprehension platform and a community-driven gym partner app. My focus was on bridging the gap between high-level project goals and user-ready interfaces, ensuring a consistent and predictable experience across the entire TeamUp ecosystem.
Capstone Projects
Redesigning a Website
Protecting the places we play: A digital home for Colorado climbers.
I provided the PPCA with a high-fidelity vision and a standardized UI toolkit to serve as their digital roadmap. My goal was to equip them with the architectural foundations they need to modernize their presence when they are ready to scale.
Adding a Feature to Netflix
Bridging the gap between streaming and social: A Netflix feature integration.
Watching is better together. I designed a high-fidelity social feature for Netflix that turns 'What should I watch?' into a community experience. This project was about building a predictable, native way for users to recommend titles to their inner circle without ever leaving the app, streamlining the journey from discovery to play.
End to End App Design
Designing Clarity in Crisis: A Modular Framework for Emergency Preparedness.
I designed Trauma Kit to bridge the gap between having medical gear and actually knowing how to use it. I focused on designing a 'smart' first-aid assistant that tailors your supplies to your specific trip, whether it's a day hike or a week, long trek. My goal was to build a predictable, accessible system that stays out of the way until you need it most, providing clear instructions for high-stress moments.
Subscription Service
Bridging the Gap Between Recipe Discovery and the Grocery Aisle.
I designed FreshFinds to bridge the gap between digital inspiration and the real-world kitchen. I didn't just build a recipe library; I architected an interactive culinary ecosystem that turns browsing into action. By designing a dynamic, high-fidelity shopping list engine, I focused on making the transition from screen to store as predictable and intuitive as possible—ensuring every home cook has a scalable roadmap for their next meal.
